Phones 4u offers three months free Wi-Fi for new smartphone customers

Phones 4u is offering new pay-as-you-go and contract customers three months free Wi-Fi if they buy a Wi-Fi-enabled smartphone over the Christmas period.

The ‘4u Wi-Fi’ service is being provided by The Cloud (now owned by BSkyB), which has over 6,000 hotspots across the UK. Customers need only register for their Wi-Fi access once. Each time they then enter one of The Cloud’s Wi-Fi hotspots, they will be automatically connected to wireless internet. 

Alistair Firth, director of customer development at Phones 4u said: ‘We recognised that our smartphone customers want to be able to utilise the full capability of their handset without having to worry about their network data allowance.

‘4u Wi-Fi not only gives them unlimited Wi-Fi access at locations including McDonalds restaurants, JD Wetherspoon pubs, Cafe Nero and thousands more venues including Phones 4u stores, but excitingly it also provides the added convenience of a one-time registration, so there’s no more wasting time with repeated registrations and logins, just seamless access every time they enter one of The Cloud’s more than 6,000 Wi-Fi hotspots.’

In addition, Phones 4u are also giving their pay-as-you-go customers a free £10 top-up, delivered to their smartphones by text on Christmas day. The retailer estimates that the combined worth of the Wi-Fi offer and the £10 top-up is over £5.5million.

Phones 4u trading director Scott Hooton said: ‘This Christmas, we wanted to give something back to our customers, to say thank you and wish them a Merry Christmas from us all at Phones 4u. Pay-as-you-go smartphones are always an extremely popular gifting option at this time of year, whether it’s parents buying them for their children, or people buying them for their loved ones. 

Both the £10 free top-up with every pay-as-you-go smartphone purchase and the three months free 4u Wi-Fi will be available from 16 November. Customers will get their first three months Wi-Fi free, then after that they will have to pay £2.99 per month for unlimited Wi-Fi access subject to a fair usage policy of 1GB per month. 1GB is equivalent to 10,000 basic web pages, or one million emails, or 200 song downloads.

Phones 4u is also saying ‘thank you’ to its staff by giving every staff member free access to 4u Wi-Fi – for life.
